In the first initiative phase, collectionsthat voluntarily contribute to this endeavor will help to build a test project. A Demo Version involving more than 20 collections will be finished before the middle of 2012.
Then the full scale project will open up the culture collections community to all microbiologists, giving the collections a high profile and maximum visibility. In the end of 2015, it is expected that more than 200 collections will be covered by GCM.
GCM set the WDCM minimum datasets and recommended datasets based on widely appliedstandards such as OECD Best Practice, Microbial Information Network Europe (MINE) and DarwinCore.
Each participant collection couldtransfers its catalogue information according to WDCM minimum datasets either by Excel template, XML template or database file directly.
WDCM works on the strain information and constructs a global catalogueaccompanying with web services to make connection of cultures information to the international scientific and industrial communities.
WDCM also provides a database management system to small but distinctive collections, allowingcollections to select the fields appropriate to their data from the WDCM recommended datasets, which provides great flexibility to them.
